  • Poás Volcano is one of the major attractions in the Central Valley region, also one of the most visited national parks, and a great day trip add-on for any Costa Rica vacation itinerary. Poás volcano is one of the most popular volcanoes in Costa Rica (mainly due to the proximity to San José). In addition, the forest park incredibly dense that surrounds the two craters making it an oasis near the city! Poás is also one of the most active and largest in the world. It measures more than a mile wide and more than 900 feet deep. There are two lakes near the summit of Poás. The national park consists of about 15,000 acres that cover at least four different acres that cover at least four different habitats. This is another proof of the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica. One of the most exciting attractions in Costa Rica, Poás Volcano dazzles with its bubbling crater lagoon.  The lagoon varies from aquamarine to green. It has easy access to routes, impressive viewpoints and an interactive museum that details the history of the Poás Volcano National Park.

    As of September 1st, 2018 the park reopened its doors to visitors. Now you can only visit with a reservation, for which you have to buy tickets beforehand. On the site www.sinac.go.cr a section “Reservaciones en el Volcán Poás” appears. Each person will see hours and days available, you can reserve up to ten spaces. All routes are paved and in good condition.
