  • 45 minutes from la Fortuna de San Carlos is located this geological formation that invites you to leave your fear aside and discover what life is like inside a cave. Narrow tunnels, a waterfall and bats are part of its inner route.

    The Venado caves are approximately 3 km from east of a town with the same name. The caves contain configurations over 6 million years old bear the beauty of waterfalls, numerous stalactites, and stalagmites, an exotic fauna like fish, insects, spiders, and four different species of bat. In total, they make up a set of 450 caverns, of which  only 10 rooms have access to tourists. Each one is is about 35 meters high on average and many are interconnected. The rest is a conservation area reserved for speleologists, responsible for exploring and studying this type of formations. Whoever sets foots in this place does not have to be claustrophobic or if he is, has to be determined to overcome the claustrophobia to live the adventure. The caves are open to the public from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and the tour takes around 2 and a half hour. The rates start from $25 per person and only children older than 6 years old are allowed to do this tour. What to bring? Light clothing, not jeans, some extra clothing also since you will get wet, tennis shoes and a waterproof camera.
