  • One of its main objectives of the Reserva Biológica Alberto Manuel Brenes is to maintain natural processes in an unaltered state, in such a way that area available for studies and scientific research, environmental control, education and maintenance of water resources, edaphic and genetic in a state of free and dynamic evolution, for the benefit of present and future generations. This reserve offers researchers and students the opportunity to work in a forest of exuberant beauty and biodiversity. The discovery of new species, both in flora and fauna and the presence of endemic species, for example the colorful Heliconia Ramonensis found only in the Reserve and nearby sites, has made the Reserva Biológica Alberto Manuel Brenes one of the most important research centers of the Arenal Conservation Area. There are waterfalls, springs, a lot of rivers, a very beautiful landscapes and an evergreen forest, in addition, viewpoints. It has a dry season from January to May, it is a very rainy area almost all year round, this area protects many aquifer deposits for industrial human consumption and as electricity production of the two hydroelectric projects that exist in the area and two other projects that are being carried out. The flora is very abundant and diverse, more than 1,300 species of plants have been identified, of which about 50% are trees and shrubs and the other 50% correspond to lianas and epiphytes. Species of plants and animals are frequently found here too.
