  • A rare and captivating biological haven, the Reserva Biológica Hitoy- Cecere is a treasured secret in Limón Province. Unspoiled and lush tropical forests with a variety of vegetation and streams with abundant waterfalls await you. The park is located approximately 36 miles 60 km south of Puerto Limón and is southwest of the La Estrella Valley in Limón province. The indigenous reserves of Talamanca, Tayni, and Telire are adjacent to the reserve.

The main attraction of this place, is precisely the low influx of visits it has, which has allowed the area to have a flora and fauna of fragile type, in addition, that here make many species that are not frequent in other regions of Costa Rica.. For example, the bird known as Montezuma oriole, which congregates to build a large number of hanging nests in a single tree. Importantly, if you enjoy bird watching, the Hitoy- Cecere reserve has a wide variety of winged animals. The reserve has three main trails, one of them and easier to cross is the one that leads to a beautiful waterfall, has a length of a 4 km, and its route is marked by the river channel, because it is only to follow the channel upstream. The other path known as Tepezcuintle, has a circular shape and seeks to intern the visitor in the middle of the different habitats that Hitoy-Cecere has, its length is 3 km, but now the road is somewhat neglected. Finally, the third path is that of the steepest and most difficult slope, almost nobody has covered it and the route needs a bit of maintenance. Facilities are minimal and include a ranger station, parking lot, bird observation areas, trails, swimming area, fresh water, and restrooms.
