  • If you are a lover of walking and pure air, you should visit Prusia, a sector of the Irazú Volcano National Park, located north of the province of Cartago, 6 kilometers northeast of Tierra Blanca. Prusia is located southwest of the craters and mostly covered by exotic forests. It measures 697 hectares and it has 16 kilometers of trails open to the public and some restricted areas dedicated to research. The vegetation of tall pines and eucalyptus gives it a special aroma but above all an appearance of boreal forest that is exotic for the visitor as well as the imposing oaks. On the 2800 meters of altitude the native forest of height composed of dwarf trees like the Montamonte and bushes that dominate the landscape until reaching the 3100 meters of altitude, the subparam is present although the páramo vegetation is exclusive to the crater sector. This magical forest has a 16 km of trails, in which you will feel a little cold, but you can see the beautiful vegetation of the place. Inside the park there are no places for you to buy water or other things, so it is recommended to bring plenty of water, more if you are going to travel all the trails, take into account that the park has picnic areas. It is recommended to wear trail shoes and comfortable clothes for walks, as well as sweater and rain coat, as it goes up the climate is changing, and also keep in mind the heart rate and breathing can be altered by the altitude of the area. In Bosque Prusia is not allowed to enter with food to the trails, smoke, or consume alcoholic beverages, camping or extract any species from the park.
