Approximately 3 hours from San José, there is a place surrounded by nature, the Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Marta, in Pejibaye de Jimenez, Cartago. During the trip to the Refuge, you can see the imposing Cachí dam, in addition to the beautiful landscape characteristic of the area and several sections where you can buy pejibayes and very unique products made from this palm fruit. The entrance to the refuge is well signposted, it is a large number of animals and rivers that invites us to cool off in its cold waters, taking advantage of the warm climate common to this region. The Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Marta is one of the most important containment fronts in the advances of agricultural colonization in the western slopes of the Talamanca Mountain Range, being also the gateway to the National Parks La Amistad and Tapantí Sector Macizo de la Muerte, as well as site of Natural Patrimony of the Humanity, denominated by UNESCO in 1983, due to its great wealth in biodiversity. The refuge has more than 17 kilometers of demarcated natural paths, which allow us to observe the richness of La Marta, some of which lead to natural pools of the rivers, waterfalls and forests. These trails range from low intensity to high level, with half-hour tours or up to 6 hours or more, depending on what the visitor is looking for. On the La Marta row path, after an approximate distance of 4 km, you will be able to reach the La Mina viewpoint, from where you can appreciate the valley in its maximum splendor surrounded by green in thousands of tones. The Refuge has roofed camping areas, equipped with drinking, water, showers, a grill for cooking and a pile, restrooms and a path with easy access to the river. The Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Marta is undoubtedly one of the spots not to be miss during your trip through the Cartago province, in Costa Rica.
