The Jaguar Center is located outside the town of Puerto Viejo, simply head in the direction of Manzanillo and you will see the road for the Center on the right hand side with a big sign.
The center was founded by two biologists from Barcelona who moved to Costa Rica to pursue their passion for wildlife protection. They named the center after a baby Jaguar they nursed back to health following the murder of its mother.
The Jaguar Rescue Center is an organization committed to rehabilitating, protecting, and caring for ill, injured, and orphaned wildlife which are then reintroduced to their natural habitat in protected areas.
Although the complex is very popular, and therefore exceedingly busy when tours are held, they are thankfully limited to only a few hours every day and visitors are escorted through with a guide. The price entry goes directly towards supporting the Center and its efforts to protect the wildlife of the region. Visitors will be able to see monkeys, wild cats, sloths, raccoons, anteaters, marsupials, reptiles, amphibians, and more. You can also observe all the venomous snakes of Costa Rica which are housed in terrariums imitating their natural habitat.
At each stop along tours through the Jaguar Rescue Center, you’ll have personal encounters with wildlife whether it’s petting young kinkajous and white-tailed deer, searching for camouflaged tree frogs or looking into the eyes of spectacled owls and toucans. The tours offered by the Jaguar Rescue Center are one of the many ways you can support their daily effort to rescue, rehabilitate and protect the wild animals of Costa Rica and at the same time an unforgettable experience and unique chance to get a close look and learn about all of their special guests.
