  • The Parque Nacional Isla del Coco is located in the Eastern Pacific, exactly 532 km from Cabo Blanco Island in Costa Rica. It is the only island in the Pacific Ocean with a tropical jungle in it, which makes it an ideal laboratory for studies of evolutionary biological processes, since many of the mammals found in the island were taken by pirates and other vessels during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and had to live a process of adaptation to the en environment, so much so that today they are considered endemic species of the place.

The island itself is quite attractive, with more than 2000 waterfalls falling from the top, even some pouring the vital liquid into the sea, the place looks like a worthy image for a tourist postcard or the cover of any edition of the National Geographic magazine. Its land is covered with an evergreen forest and only in the high part of the place, there is an ecosystem similar to the cloud forest, it has great variety of birds, reptiles and insects. As for mammals, there are several species but they represent the smallest group. The wide variety and richness of aquatic flora and fauna can leave anyone breathless. For this reason, Isla del Coco, is one of the most popular tourist destinations of scuba diving enthusiasts throughout the world. This area has enormous biological significance to the country, due to the large quantity of varying species that are residents of the island. By extension, this island has biological significance to the world at large. Ecologists and biologists from around the world have chosen Coco´s Island National Park to explore nature´s inner workings.
