  • The Parque Nacional La Cangreja is located in San José province, Puriscal canton, Mercedes Sur and Chires districts, the main entrance is located 35 kilometers south east of the city of Santiago de Puriscal.

    La Cangreja, refres to the characteristic shape of the hill that is located at its highest point at 1305 meters above sea level, is site of great scenic and panoramic beauty, which according to an indigenous history the mountain resembles a Crab and the hills on its sides the pincers of the same. The park protects abundant and crystal clear water sources such as the Negro River and the Quebrada Grande, which between rock formations carved by nature, allow the visitor to enjoy and relax when bathing or simply contemplate them. The current territory of the Park is 2570 hectares, in which there are 44 species of endemic plants of Costa Rica. The park has more than 300 species of birds, such as limpets, trogons, toucans, birds of the sun, turkey hens and more. In addition, animals such as the agoutis, coatis, lowland paca, peccary, deer, pumas, ocelots, poison dart frogs, among others, stand out. The Parque Nacional La Cangreja is a small area that protects a great variety of migratory birds as well as flora species.
